Dear Data Natives,

We've got 99 problems but data ain’t one...?

Yes, the market is growing by 30% annually and is expected to be worth $78 billion in 2030. But that's a big investment for still little return: the expectations are high, the amount of data is huge, the data scientist takes a lot of time to cleanse the data, the team is not convinced, the data
scientist leaves on the verge of a burn-out.

How did this fail so miserably?

And... how can we solve it?

Is it time for your insights to change the world?

We have the platform for you! As a startup, you can still apply to speak at DN19
this November. It's a great opportunity to be seen by our community and connect with investors, as well as talent. Just send us your million-dollar thoughts and we
will get in touch.

We asked 3 DN19 speakers how can we make the Data Science world a better place - here's what they said:

🤓 Know your data sources: before setting up a Data Science team, you should know what data sources you use and have an alignment between different teams regarding KPIs, says Lior Barak (Managing Partner at Tale about Data).

🧬 Data Scientist vs Data Engineer - know the difference: Sophie Brüggemann, Data Analyst at Warner Music's Spinnin' Records advises companies to find what kind of specialty they need: "Most times when a company hires a Data Scientist for the first time, they actually need a Data Engineer".

🚀 To build a rocketship to the moon, you first need to learn how to fly an airplane: Dr. Sébastien Foucaud, Vice-President of XING’s Data Science team, believes that simpler is always better. XING conquered the market because users view it as the most trustworthy platform.

💡 Take your time and invest in creating a data mindset at the office: it can be difficult as a Data Scientist in a traditional hierarchical structure, tells Sophie Brüggemann: "It takes a lot of personal integrity to go for what the data says if you go against someone’s decision," she says. "It doesn’t make you popular."

🤝 Give your data scientist the space to roam around: Zinayida Kensche, Data Analyst at Dropnostix thinks it is important that a Data Scientist doesn't get isolated. "Give her the possibility to dive into important fields of your company," she tells.

👊🏿👊🏻👊🏽👊 Diversity is your friend: A mathematician, physicist or computer scientist, can be helpful to your Data Science team. It is also important to have at least one senior in the team, which can be hard to find.

How to conquer the German market

In the age of GDPR, California's CCPA and internet users around the globe demanding privacy and transparency, it's more and more a must to be a trustworthy platform. It's how XING conquered the German market.

We talked with Vice-President of XING’s Data Science team, Dr. Sébastien Foucaud about his approach and learned how simpler is always better. Read the full article here.

We are happy to announce XING as one of our DN19 partners. Do you want to thrive alongside us and get instant access to a warm community of data-pioneers? We would love to have you on board.
